? 3 Ingredient Vegetable Dip Recipe ?

* I n g r e d i e n t s *
— 10-12 cobs of corn
— 2 limes
— 2 large zucchinis (one green, one yellow, if possible)
— OPTIONAL: avocado, hot pepper and/or sea salt (add these ONLY if you really need them)

* P r e p a r a t i o n *
— 1) Using a bread knife slice the corn off of the cobs, and transfer to a food processor.

— 2) Using a citrus hand juicer squeeze lime juice over corn, and also add any of the optional ingredients, if necessary.

— 3) Blend in food processor until the consistency of a dip, and then transfer mixture to a serving bowl.

— 4) Slice zucchinis into bite-sized rounds.

— 5) Serve with dip, and enjoy!

* I n s p i r a t i o n *
— Enjoy the simplicity of whole, raw foods!

— Leave out the isolated foods, that have been chemically altered with heat, or the extraction of water.*(see clarification below)

— Eat the food that grows off the trees, or out of the ground.

— Each fruit and vegetable is a perfectly balanced piece of nature.

— Nature doesn’t isolate. Nature is whole and pure. She knows what she’s doing! She is infinitely intelligent, and already had it all figured out for us! Have faith in her infinite wisdom.

— It is NOT about eating 100% raw. It is about eating 100% HEALTHY.

— It is unfortunately today possible to be 100% raw, but totally unhealthy…for example, if you are basing your diet on heavy raw foods such as nuts, pâtés, dehydrated crackers and other dehydrated foods, raw vegan ice creams and other dessert treats.

*I know what some of you may be thinking…if he’s saying to not alter the food before we eat it, why on earth is he using a food processor? The answer is that what I mean by altering ones food, I mean altering it *biochemically* on the *molecular* level via heat (which for example denatures protein molecules, leading to a disruption of the molecular conformations themselves). I also feel that altering foods by dehydrating them, too drastically changes the way that nature intended for us to enjoy these foods. Our bodies are almost all water, so clearly, water is important to us. If the fruit or vegetable came with water in it, it should stay with it! Otherwise, our bodies would have to retrieve the same amount of missing water from our very own bodies in order to digest the dehydrated food properly. In my opinion, dehydrated foods literally dehydrate you. So please have them in moderation, and always with a glass of water…but do not make that a habit, as whole fruits and vegetables are always best!

Care to share any vegetarian recipes using raw potatoes or raw onions?

September 29, 2009 - 6:56 am 10 Comments

I heard that eating veggies raw is better but certain ones that are really good for you like onions and potatoes seem like there aren’t many ways to eat them raw and still be enjoyable. Thanks in advance!
I don’t mind raw onions like on or in a salad, but potatoes are so crunchy and flavorless raw.

Eating raw potatoes is dangerous! Please don’t do it. Eating too much raw potatoes can produce gastro-intestinal, liver, as well as heart damage! You might want to check out this article to make sure you aren’t eating any dangerous raw foods: http://rawveg.info/rawfoodtoxins.html

As for the raw onion, I love making a tomato and white onion salad. Just slice the onion up, salt it, then squeeze it to soften it up a bit. Then rinse the onion to remove the salt. Add the onion to a bowl, add chopped tomatoes, and then sprinkle with some olive oil. It’s really delicious!

I also like adding raw red onion to my green salads for some extra zing.

Know any good raw food recipes?

September 29, 2009 - 6:55 am 8 Comments

Preferably somebody that has some knowledge about what a raw food diet actually is.

Sweet and sour simple salad

serves 1

a simple and powerfull sweet and sour, nut free salad, almost instant

Ingredients
½ cup ripe avocado, chopped
1 tablespoon onion, chopped
2 tablespoons tomato, chopped
¼ cup sunflower seeds
¼ cup pinenut seeds
¼ cup pumpkin seeds
1 tablespoon black sesame seeds
2 tablespoons lemon juice, fresh squeezed
1 tablespoon ACV
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 sprinkle sea salt
3 dashes fresh black pepper
1 tablespoon agave syrup
2 cups torn lettuce
¼ clove garlic, optional
1 tablespoon ground flax seed
Preparation
mix everything but the lettuce together in a bowl, then either mix lettuce in or serve on it. i just knocked this up and it really is very strong so adjust the sweet and sour ingrediants a bit if its too much for you.

i love fast food ;)

i reacon you could also serve this over cauliflower rice or soaked millet or quinoa, let me know if anyone tries it

—————————————
Puttanesca Pasta
Ingredients
1 zucchini, julienned or spiralized
1 medium tomato, chopped
6 kalamata olives, chopped
3 large green olives, chopped
3 sundried tomatoes, chopped
1 slice of red onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, chopped
1 handful of parlsey, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small handfull of sprouts, to garnish
1 tablespoon pinenuts, finely chopped
Preparation
Julienne the zucchini and add a pinch of sea salt just to soften. Let sit while preparing the sauce. Mix the next 7 ingredients ( tomato to olive oil ) in a bowl. Drain the zucchini ( sometimes you will have some water to drain off from adding the salt.) and top with the sauce. I threw my plate in the dehydrator for 10 minutes just to take the chill of the refigerator off. Then garnish with sprouts and pinenuts ( parmesean!) Enjoy!!!

Butter Nut Squash Cookies

4 cups peeled butternut squash chopped into medium sized chunks

1 cup raisins

The juice of one orange

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

3 tablespoons raw honey

Blend the chopped squash in a food processor and transfer into a bowl. Next blend the raisins and the orange juice in a food processor and add to the squash mixture. Add the rest of the ingredients into the bowl and mix thoroughly.

Take out your ice cream scoop and scoop the mixture onto a dehydrator tray, flatten each cookie till they are one inch thick. Set the dehydrator for 100 degrees and leave in for 12 – 15 hours.

Makes 7-11 cookies

what do you think about the raw food detox diet?

September 29, 2009 - 6:55 am 6 Comments

If you are going to do it for a period of time to help flush out toxins from your body, it is great. We all need to eat more raw fruits and vegs. Do a lot of research and be sure you are balancing things well. Some common mistakes are eating WAY too many of the things that we like, usually avocados and nuts. And take it slow in the begining. Your digestion may need some extra time to digest hard, raw vegs. So at first don’t sit down to a huge plate of 10 different raw vegetables. Eat two at a time, about an hour apart. And chew your food really, really well.
There are great websites to help you with everything, and you will feel like a part of the raw food community in no time.

raw food recipes, and looking for healthy raw porridge recipes?

September 26, 2009 - 6:53 am 7 Comments

any ideas?

All I have tried so far is porridge soaked in a bit of milk and sugar, want something healthier.
What raw websites do you use.

This is my favourite breakfast using raw oats:

Apple muesli

Make a batch of wheat-free muesli wth:
500g oats
150g raisins
100g mixed raw nuts or pumpkin and sunflower seeds, or a combination
Quarter teaspoon of cinnamon.

At breakfast time, put one-third of a cup of the muesli into a large cereal bowl with two-thirds of a cup of sweetened soya milk (it must be soya for best taste - not dairy. I don’t like soya milk in most things, but in this it’s fantastic).
Add a grated apple (gala is my favourite) and half a tablespoon of lemon juice (this brings out the flavour nicely).
Mix it up. You can add a handful of cut up strawberries or banana if you like, but that’s optional.
Bon appetit!

This is utterly delicious, and so good for you, too.

What are some recipes or ideas for raw vegetable dips?

September 26, 2009 - 6:53 am 3 Comments

I’m attempting to eat healthier and I’ve been snacking often on raw veggies and ranch dip but I’m burnt out already on the ranch dip.

What are some recipes for veggie dips?
of
Something to marinade the vegetables in?

Basically anything that keeps me eating good and that isn’t a ranch dip! :)

Any suggestions for fruit also??

Thank you in advance for your help.

Tzatziki is a great dip for veggies and really easy to make

350g/12oz Greek yoghurt
1 cucumber
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 cloves of garlic, grated finely
dash of extra virgin olive oil
paprika, for sprinkling

Method
1. The best result is achieved by peeling and de-seeding the cucumber before grating. Hang the grated cucumber in muslin cloth or a tea towel in order to squeeze out all the excess liquid.
2. Combine the yoghurt, cucumber, lemon juice and garlic. Add a dash of olive oil and sprinkle with paprika.

Also this aubergine and garlic dip is gorgeous:

500g/1lb 2oz aubergines (continental if possible)
3 cloves garlic, crushed
½ medium red onion, chopped
1 tbsp tahini sauce
50ml/2fl oz olive oil
½ lemon, juiced
a pinch of cumin
salt and pepper, to taste

Method
1. Roast the aubergine in an oven at 180C/350F/Gas 4, or preferably char-grill to give a smoked flavour. Cook until completely soft in the middle (40-45 minutes in the oven).
2. Allow to cool slightly and peel.
3. Finely chop by hand and combine with all other ingredients.

Raw dog diet… detox?

September 26, 2009 - 6:53 am 4 Comments

Hey all. I started my dogs on a raw diet on, I believe it was Tuesday, the 14th. They so far have had just chicken with a liver bit of organs and an egg. I am going shopping for a little variety tomorrow probably and am wondering what is a good thing to start them on next? And how often can they get organs?

The main question is how long do dogs normally detox? My male who has always had very itchy skin is still having that issue. My oldest female is having *very* gunky eyes. Both are nine and that we know of have been on Nutro Natural Choice and Dick Van Patten’s Grain-Free. Before adopting them not sure of what they were eating but it couldn’t be good.

My pup (17 months) is having only a little bit of gunky eyes. The majority of her food history is Wellness CORE and before rescuing her she was on Red Flannel.

Are these issues just detoxing? That would explain why my older dogs are having it worse since they were on crappy food much longer. Just wondering how long detoxing is on average.

Oh and I haven’t checked much recently but in the beginning I found some little pieces of bone in their stools… is this okay or something to worry about?

Thanks so much! :) Any extra advice is always appreciated.

Some dogs can take 5-6 weeks to detox. Others get through much sooner. I guess it has to do with the health and condition of the dogs when they start on the raw diet.

I blend up a small quantity of raw vegies to a pulp and add a whole egg to approx 1 Kg (2.2 pound) of the mix. I also add in some fat free live culture yoghurt and a little cold pressed flaxseed oil. My dogs don’t have allergies so I alternate between turkey, chicken, beef and lamb. I don’t feed raw pork and kangaroo gives them loose stools so that’s out too.

Organ meat - I feed a small amount twice a week but I cook it because I hate handling it raw. The butcher chops it for me and I tip it into a pot without having to touch it.
My dogs get a raw meaty bone every day. It keeps the teeth in good condition. Don’t worry about little pieces of bone in the stool. The dogs digestive system is designed to cope with bone….as long as it’s raw and not cooked.
I usually make up a fairly large batch and freeze in meal size containers.
You’re doing a good job and you’ll see an overall improvement in your dogs before long.

Argentine Raw Chimichurri Sauce Recipe

September 23, 2009 - 10:42 pm 25 Comments

http://www.RenegadeHealth.com - The Argentines have got a winner with chimichurri sauce…

It’s traditionally put on beef (any cut or part imaginable) but we got a little creative and came up with a few alternative options.

If you like food… which I’m sure you do… you’ll love this raw version to this one ;-)

(I think the sauce is raw anyway as long as you don’t buy it in a bottle from the supermarket!)

Benefits of Raw Food Diets/Lifestyle?

September 23, 2009 - 8:49 am 6 Comments

I was just wondering, how raw food is healthier than it cooked.
Also what are some of your favorite raw meals, other than the obvious veggies and fruits?
Yes, I am talking raw vegan. Sorry for the confusion :-)

Raw vegan food is healthier because it retains all its nutrients, minerals, enzymes and vitamins, which in turn you digest.

When you cook food at above a certain temperature, most of the nutrients, minerals, enzymes and vitamins get destroyed.

http://www.living-foods.com/faq.html

http://goneraw.com/recipes

http://www.alissacohen.com/raw.html

We may be speaking a different language here but I have to comment on some of the other replies:

Things like yogurt, cheese, tofu, cream cheese and raspberry jam, are NOT considered raw.

Yes, they were originally raw in their basic state but……. during the process of turning the raw ingredients into yogurt, cheese, tofu, cream cheese and raspberry jam, they were all heated / cooked / pasteurised (heat treated)

Unless sucking milk directly from a cows udder, milk is not raw because they pasteurise (heat treat) it to make it suitable for sale. Same goes for things like yogurt, cheese, tofu and cream cheese.

To make raspberry jam you boil raspberries and sugar at high temperatures.

I LOVE the raw desserts (raw pumpkin pie), see above websites for ideas.

How long is the detox process when going on a raw food diet? What are some of the symptoms?

September 23, 2009 - 8:49 am 1 Comment

Detox symptoms usually only last a couple of days, and they include nausea, diarrhea, cramps, headache, fever, sore throat, lethargy, fatigue and cravings may occur, especially in those who previously had a diet rich in meat, sugar, and caffeine.

Where can I go for Raw Food recipes?

September 20, 2009 - 7:42 am 5 Comments

I am interested in starting the raw diet, and need some good recipes. I found goneraw.com but was disappointed by the inability to sort recipes by rating. I basically need a bunch of good recipes that don’t require cooking.

http://goneraw.com/

http://goneraw.com/forums

They have a great, supportive community there, lots of recipes and sound advice, especially in the forums. The great thing about raw, however, is that it requires the least amount of planning for a meal. Simply eat raw food! It’s fun to play around with recipes, though, and this site has plenty of good ones.
