Vegan 2 Raw Vegan Wide Screen Preview of the raw vegan doco

March 16, 2010 - 7:29 pm 17 Comments

Most Vegans’ would say their diet is pretty good anyway. Could going raw make any difference?”

This project by New Zealand filmmaker, Mike Fields, covers the emotional and medical changes that happen when someone on a Vegan Diet changes to a Raw Vegan Diet. In a country with 4 million people and 45 million sheep, Mike travels New Zealand in search of anyone else who has even heard of Raw Vegan. With each contact he interviews we discovers a network of advocates for the raw food movement.

“There are many experiments where you take a person on a standard diet (fast foods, fats, salts and sugars) and put them on a raw diet and they lose lots of weight and become healthier. However even smaller improvements in the diets of these people would still make big changes to their health.”

“That’s where this documentary is different. We take a health conscious vegan and see what a changes a 100% raw lifestyle will make.”

How Do I Gain Weight on the Raw Food or Vegan Diet

March 6, 2010 - 10:31 pm 25 Comments

http://www.therenegadehealthshow.com - I get this question more than you would think…

Sometimes in comes in this form: “How do I gain weight on the raw food diet?”

Other times it’s: “Help, I’m loosing weight too fast and I need help!”

Not that bad of an issue to have, but for some this means loosing muscle mass as well (I know, it happened to me).

Here’s my answer…

Vegetable Salad Recipes—Easy Healthy Recipes—Raw Food Diet Menu—Healthy Salad Dressing Recipes—Raw Food Weight Loss—

Ummm…have you ever seen a zucchini so large?

? Zucchorny Salad! ?

* I n g r e d i e n t s *
—all quantities are up to you!—
— Zucchinis / Courgettes
— Raw Corn on the Cob (yes, totally raw, NOT even so much as lightly steamed…although if you need to steam them, we won’t tell anyone…)
— Cherry Tomatoes
— Beefsteak Tomatoes
— Leeks
— Fresh Dill
— 1 Lime
— 1 Avocado

* P r e p a r a t i o n *
— 1) Using your food processor’s shredder blade, make zucchini (aka courgette) “noodles.” The Cuisinart I use: http://bit.ly/y7RO7

— 2) Slice corn off of the cobs, and mix together with the cherry tomatoes & the zucchini noodles you just made in a large serving bowl.

— 3) For the dressing, roughly chop the beefsteak tomatoes as well as the leeks, and toss them along with the fresh dill into your Vita-Mix, or other high-powered blender of your choice. The Vitamix I use: hhttp://bit.ly/X81Uu (If desired, you can toss some of the chopped leeks directly into your salad)

— 4) Use a manual citrus juicer or a citrus hand juicer to squeeze the juice of the lime over everything in the Vitamix. You can find manual citrus juicers here: http://bit.ly/4isIOU

— 5) Roughly chop the avocado into the Vitamix as well, and blend until desired consistency is reached.

— 6) Drizzle salad dressing over salad or serve on the side, and enjoy!

* I n s p i r a t i o n *
— When you add ingredients to your Vitamix or blender, think of adding the moister, juicier ingredients towards the bottom…this will allow your blender to blend everything more smoothly, and much more easily! For example, I always put my tomatoes in the bottom…and I never put avocados in first!

— I don’t eat a lot of onions, leeks & garlic, etc., as I’ve been becoming more and more sensitive to them, the more fruitarian I eat…i.e., the more fruit I eat. I’m getting more sensitive to foods in general, and my consciousness says that these foods will one day not be part of my diet at all…that I’ll be focusing more on foods like cucumbers, watermelons, soft & tender leafy greens, etc. Just really simple, clean eating! With low metabolic wastes…

— Foods like onions and garlic have ‘plant protectants’ in them, so it takes more energy & work for your body to process them. You have to continually use alkaline minerals to neutralize the stimulating properties of these foods. These foods are classified as “rajasic” in the Hindu system of traditional medicine called Ayurveda, which includes foods that are bitter, sour, salty, pungent, hot and/or dry, and are thought by some to promote sensuality, greed, jealousy, anger and delusion. Yeah, I think I’m pretty much over those feelings, but I definitely will admit they were a big part of my life in the past (as many of you know, I had a rough childhood and a rocky, unstable time well into & throughout my 20’s.)

— Today, I’m leaning more towards a ’sattvic’ way of eating, which in Ayurveda refers to foods that are fresh, juicy, light, nourishing & tasty, and thus give necessary energy to the body and help achieve balance. Does that sound good to you too? ;)

— The winter is fast approaching and we will be hitting the road as soon as we can’t stand how cold it has become. We do find it is nice right now to just be able to ‘chill’ and work on building up this YouTube channel as well as our website (which someday we will release, and only God knows when!) without any distractions from the road.

— That being said, once we do get out of here we will be coming to a town near you! Well, on the west coast first at least! Let us know if you are located anywhere from Washington State down to Southern California and over to Arizona (but not too far from the main roads), and would like to see us swing by! Before inviting us anywhere, please DO keep keep in mind our RV is 40-feet long, alright?? ;-)

— Also, once we hit the road, prepare to see this channel turn into something along the lines of a raw vegan adventure channel, with an educational twist & a focus on love…camping, hiking, hot springing, etc….so who knows what adventures the road will bring us! We will try to throw up more videos on the road, but will just leave Krista’s notes out on the adventure-type ones so we can get more of them up quickly for you to enjoy! So…what do you guys think? We would love to hear your thoughts & ideas! ;)

You are gonna love this
yummy & delicious
recipe for vegetable soup!

? Garden Fresh ‘n’ Easy Vegetable Soup Recipe ?

* I n g r e d i e n t s *
…..All quantities in this recipe are up to you! Use your intuition. ;-)
— 1 Young Coconut (coconut water)
— Tomatoes, roughly chopped
— Carrots, roughly chopped (fresh from the garden if possible…including the green carrot tops!)
— Peas, shelled
— Fresh Wild Lamb’s Quarters Herbs, with leaves torn off of stems
— Bok Choy Flowers (if you have your garden, you can get these)
— 1 Lime
— Broccoli Florets
— Lettuce
— Red Chard, with leaves torn off of stems
— Kale, with leaves torn off of stems
— Collard Greens, with leaves torn off of stems
— Yellow Zucchini (or green, if yellow is not available), chopped into rounds

* P r e p a r a t i o n *
— 1) Open the young coconut—refer to this video if you need help: http://bit.ly/u9Q4j —and pour its water into your Vita-Mix, or other high-powered blender of your choice. http://bit.ly/GZsuq or http://bit.ly/3OTXD9

— 2) Add chopped tomatoes & carrots, along with the green carrot tops if you were lucky enough to get your carrots fresh from your garden, followed by the shelled peas, the leaves of the wild lambs quarters and the bok choy flowers, if you were able to get some from your garden.

— 3) Using a manual citrus juicer, a citrus hand juicer, or just your hands, squeeze the juice of one lime over the top. As your blender probably has no more room to add the rest of your ingredients, lightly blend for a few seconds to make some room on top for the rest.

— 4) Once you’ve made some room, add the broccoli florets, followed by all your leafy greens: lettuce, chard, kale & collard greens (make sure that you first tore of all the leaves from the thick stems…you can either add the stems to your compost, run them through your garbage disposal, or throw them away)

— 5) Blend everything up in your Vita-Mix, but not too much, as you’ll want to leave some texture behind. Then, transfer the soup to individual soup bowls.

— 6) Take the chopped zucchini rounds and place around the inside of all the soup bowls and/or you can serve them on the side.

— 7) Serve…and enjoy!

*** Motivation & Inspiration ***
— Whatever your line of work, think of helping people first, and then make money. Don’t think about how you can make money, and then help people. You want to bring the TRUE compassion to your work.

— Do yourself and your loved ones a favor…do NOT be militant in your approach to eating well and being healthy.

— Just be a good person, develop your art, and they will come to you. Be friends first, and THEN offer your products and services….not the other way around. ;-)

Do I Have Too Much Fat in My Raw Food Diet #176

February 28, 2010 - 7:18 pm 15 Comments

http://www.therenegadehealthshow.com - It’s election day in the US, but I’m more concerned if you have more fat in your raw food diet than who wins…

Right after the show today I walked down to the local school and cast my vote. As much as it counts, I still wonder if it really does… but that’s just my own hang up! :-)
Anyway, some great questions on the blog that I answer today.

We’ll talk about late night eating, some follow up on the candida research that I’ve been doing, and I’m also going to talk about the right amount of fat a raw food diet should have.

Take a look…

What Raw Food Diet I’ve Been Following Lately and a Q …

February 28, 2010 - 7:18 pm 13 Comments

http://www.therenegadehealthshow.com - A lot of you have been asking what I’ve been eating lately…

So today, I’m going to share exactly what I’ve eaten on a regular basis for the last 4-5 weeks. It’s pretty instructive, considering the candida issue that I’ve been having.

I will spare you the pictures, but I recently expelled a massive chunk of yeast that was about half the size of a golf ball.

That is good news, because I know it’s coming out!

I also answer a bunch of other questions about dulse, food processors, the vitamix blender and more!

Take a look…
